The Work of the Chaplain is the ideal starting point for all who are exploring a call to chaplain ministry, including seminarians. As experienced chaplains themselves, the authors provide from a Christian perspective a concise history and biblical basis for chaplain ministry and carefully explain what makes chaplaincy unique.
"This is an excellent resource for graduate theological schools and clergy exploring the call to this specialized ministry."
— Paul E. Clark, Coordinator of Chaplaincy Ministries,
American Baptist Churches USA
The Ethics of Published Prayer Concerns
Christians believe in the power of praying together about specific concerns, and many churches use telephone and e-mail prayer chains to communicate needs. But what about privacy issues—both legal and ethical?
Download these guidelines prepared by the Rev. David Nicholson, an American Baptist chaplain, who serves at Memorial Medical Center in Springfield, Illinois.
If you are presently endorsed and would like to submit your annual report as an attachment to e-mail, just download the form, completed it, attach it to an e-mail and send it to cpcs@abc-usa.org.

Supporting Those Who Serve—Ministry with Service Members, Veterans and Their Families.
This issue of The Christian Citizen explores how churches can improve their capacity to respond in practical and supportive ways to the emotional and spiritual needs of active-duty and veteran service men and women and their families. Including the unique perspectives of American Baptist chaplains serving in various branches of the U.S. military, this issue will prompt new ideas and energy within churches to support, care for and share the burden of those who have given so much through their service.
